Back in 2018, I had the chance to visit Namibia, and it turned out to be one of the best trips of my life. Before this trip, I knew very little about Namibia and all it had to offer. After exploring different travel itineraries, the country’s natural wonders, wildlife, and opportunities for adventure quickly captivated me. If Namibia isn’t on your radar, here are five reasons to add it to your travel bucket list ASAP!
1. Surreal Desert Landscapes
Namibia is one of the best desert destinations in the world. It’s home to four deserts: Namib, Kalahari, Succulent Karoo, and Nama Karoo. The Namib desert, which runs along the country’s western coastline is the world’s oldest desert. Here, within the Namib Naukluft Park, you’ll find the largest sand dunes in the world. Two of the country’s top attractions, Sossusvlei, known for its high red dunes, and Deadvlei, the clay pan featuring Namibia’s iconic camelthorn trees, will captivate you upon arrival.

2. Geological Wonders
Fish River Canyon, the largest canyon in Africa, and the second largest in the world is one of the most beautiful sites in Namibia. It is approximately 160 kilometers long, up to 27 kilometers wide, and 500 meters deep. From its main viewpoint, ǀAi-ǀAis/Richtersveld Transfrontier Park, you’ll discover the most incredible views of the canyon.

3. Rich History and Indigenous Culture
I had the chance to engage with the indigenous San Bushmen during a “Bushman Walk” in the Kalahari Desert and learned about their way of life and ancestral traditions. They have studied nature and know where to find food and water in the country's harsh desert conditions. During a tour with the Bushmen, you will learn their desert survival secrets and you will be amazed by what you learn.

4. Incredible Game Drive Opportunities
You simply cannot visit Namibia without going on a game drive tour. Etosha National Park, one of Africa’s largest national parks, is in northwest Namibia. The park is home to 114 different species of mammals including the Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino. The best opportunities to witness animals in their natural habitats are at the various water holes throughout the park.

5. Limitless Adventures
From hot-air balloon rides over the Namib Desert to riding quad bikes over towering sand dunes, Namibia offers plenty of ways to explore its natural beauty. It’s the perfect destination for both nature lovers and adrenaline junkies.
