The Way I See It: Selections from the KAWS Collection

Edges of Ailey

Edges of Ailey is a beautifully curated immersive exhibition that combines music and visual art to celebrate the legacy of Alvin Ailey. Paintings and sculptures inspired by Alvin Ailey are complemented by archival materials and a multi-screen video installation playing past performances on a loop. Although it is only situated on one floor, you'll need a couple of hours to thoroughly take in this expansive exhibition.

Ice Cold: An Exhibition of Hip-Hop Jewelry

Ice Cold celebrates a major component of hip-hop culture: jewelry. It features jewelry owned by hip-hop royalty from the 1980s to present-day stars. Slick Rick’s crown, the Notorious B.I.G.’s legendary gold ‘Jesus piece,’ the diamond-studded Roc-A-Fella medallion, and Nicki Minaj’s sparkling ‘Barbie’ pendant are all on display.

This exhibition, which kicks off the Brooklyn Museum's 200th anniversary celebration, is an homage to the many talented artists living right here in New York City. The works of over 200 artists are on display and "together these works capture the vibrancy of both Brooklyn and its artists, who are bound by deep-rooted connections and a shared love of this singular place" (Brooklynmuseum.org).
